We greet the guys, who are all off on various trips for the week of Christmas. We catch a bus and head to Parque Miramar, Ciudad de la Costa, where we have booked a stay on Airbnb.com in a lovely 65 year old woman’s home. bedroom, office, lounge and shared use of the kitchen. Just perfect for our Christmas festivities.

This is our gift to ourselves. We booked this place when we were so very unhappy in Fray Bentos and I am so glad we did. All the comforts we could ever ask for, our own little holiday from travelling.

On Christmas day we even cook our very first Christmas roast on our own – chicken, veggies, potatoes and even gravy! We also have a starter of liver paté and crackers and a newly invented SA/Uruguayan dessert – crushed biscuits mixed with melted butter in the bottom of a little glass, dulce de leche topping that and authentic South African milktart filling with cinnamon decoration – yum! We Skype with our families and enjoy our lunch, and just relax for the rest of our time here until we are off to Montevideo again on the 27th.

We organised a Couchsurfing host to stay with for 3 nights in Montevideo before going to Buenos Aires, but unfortunately she cancelled on us due to her boyfriend’s medical emergency. Fully understandable.

So we are headed back to Montevideo the Friday before New Year’s Eve with not much of a plan…
